Chapter 1
1 Seeing that many have taken in hand to present a detailed record concerning the things that have been accomplished by us,
2 as was entrusted unto us by those who from the beginning were witnesses and servants of the word,
3 it seemed best to me, after diligently investigating all these things, to write unto you an orderly account, most honorable Theophilus;
4 so that you may come to know the value of the word which you were taught.
5 In the days of Herod, the King of Judea, there was a priest, named Zechariah, of the denomination of Abijah; and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 And they were both righteous in the eyes of God, living by all of His commandments and set upon the straightway1 of God, without fault.
7 But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in their years.
8 And it came to pass, during his service as a priest before God in the order of his denomination,
9 according to the custom of the office of a priest, it was his turn to enter the temple of the Lord to burn incense.
10 Now at the hour of the incense offering a great multitude of people were praying outside.
11 At that time an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right of the altar of incense.
12 Upon seeing him, Zechariah was startled and fear set upon him.
13 But the angel said to him, “Zechariah, do not be afraid, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son and you shall name him John.
14 And you will be joyous and glad; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 For he will be great in the eyes of the Lord; and he shall not drink wine, nor ale, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while still in his mother's womb.
16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 And He will go before him in Spirit with the power of Elijah, to return the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to establish a people made ready for the Lord”
18 Then Zechariah said to the angel, “By what shall I know this? For I am an aged man and my wife is advanced in her years”
19 But in response, the angel said unto him, “I am Gabriel, one who goes before the presence of God, and I was sent to speak with you and bring these good tidings unto you.
20 But behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day upon which these things come to pass, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at His appointed time”
21 Now the people were expecting Zechariah and were wondering about his delay within the temple.
22 But when he came forth, he was unable to speak to them; then they realized that he had witnessed a manifestation within the temple; and he was making signs unto them, yet remained silent.
23 And it came to pass, as soon as the hours of his service were complete, he returned to his house.
24 And after those days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she was in seclusion five months, saying,
25 “This is how the Lord has dealt with me throughout the days, for He looked upon me to carry away my disgrace from among the people”
26 Now in the sixth month the archangel Gabriel was sent by God unto a city in the midst of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 unto a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, from the house and line of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 After coming to her, the angel said unto her, “Rejoice, blessed one, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women”2
29 But she was confused by these words and was contemplating what kind of greeting this could be.3
30 Then the angel said unto her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.
31 And behold! You will conceive in the womb and bring forth a Son, and you shall name Him Jesus.
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall give Him the throne of His forefather David;
33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there shall be no end”
34 But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have never known a man?”
35 So in response, the angel said unto her, “The Holy Spirit will come and the power of the Most High will rest upon you; because of this, the One who is born of you will be holy and will be called the Son of God.1
36 And behold! Elizabeth your kinswoman has also conceived a son in her old age; and this will be the sixth month of her who was called barren.
37 For no word of God will ever fail”3
38 Then Mary said, “Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; may it be unto me according to your word” Then the angel went from her.
39 And in those days Mary rose up, and went hastily into the hill country, unto the city of Judah,
40 And entered into the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
41 And it came to pass as Mary’s greeting reached Elizabeth’s4 ears, the child within Elizabeth's belly leapt with joy and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 And she said in a loud voice, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
43 As with the One who has given these things to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?
44 For behold! When the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leapt in my womb for joy.
45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of the words spoken unto her by the Lord”
46 Then Mary said, “My soul praises the Lord,
47 and my spirit has rejoiced in the presence of God my Savior.
48 Because He looked upon the lowly state of His handmaiden: for surely! From now on, all generations will be blessed through me.
49 For the Mighty One has done great things for me; and Holy is His name.
50 And His mercy is upon generation after generation of those who fear Him.
51 He has shown the might of His arm; He has scattered the innermost thoughts of the proud.
52 He has torn the rulers down from their thrones, but exalted the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things; but the rich He has sent away empty handed.
54 He has helped Israel His servant, in remembrance of His mercy;
55 just as He declared unto our forefathers, unto Abraham, and to his descendants for all time”
56 And Mary remained with her about three months, then returned to her house.
57 Now when Elizabeth’s term had been fulfilled, indeed she brought forth a son.
58 And when her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great favor; they also began to rejoice with her.
59 And it came to pass on the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child, and were referring to him by the name of his father, Zachariah.
60 So in response, his mother said, “No instead; call him John”
61 But they said to her, “There are none among your relatives who are called by that name”
62 So they made signs unto his father, as to what he desired to name him.
63 And after he had gestured for a writing tablet, he wrote stating, “His name is John”5 And everyone was amazed.
64 And at once his mouth and his tongue were opened and he began to speak, giving praise unto God.
65 And fear fell upon all those who lived around them; and these events were discussed all throughout the entire hill country of Judea.5
66 And all who heard it set these things upon their own hearts, saying, “What then will become of this child? Indeed, for the hand of the Lord has been upon him”5
67 At that time his father Zechariah was filled by the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying:5
68 “ ‘Blessed be the Lord God of Israel’6 For He visited us and has redeemed His people,5
69 And He has raised up the horn of our salvation in the house of David His servant;5
70 just as He has spoken through the mouth of His holy prophets from the beginning.5
71 The deliverance from our enemies, and from the hand of all those who hate us;
72 to show mercy to our forefathers, and in remembrance of His holy covenant,
73 the oath that He swore unto our forefather Abraham,
74 which has been given unto us, so that we, having been delivered from the hand of our enemies, would serve Him without fear,
75 in holiness and righteousness before Him all of our days.5
76 And you little child, will be called a prophet of the most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare His way.
77 To give His people the knowledge of salvation through the remission of their sins,5
78 through the mercy of our God, by which the Dayspring has visited us from on high,
79 to give light unto those who sit in the midst of the darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet along the way of perfect peace”
80 And the child grew, and became powerful in the Spirit, and lived in the wilderness until the day of his commission unto the people of Israel.

Chapter 2
1 Now it came to pass in those days a decree from Caesar Augustus went forth to register all the people of the land.
2 (This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governing Syria)
3 So all the people were traveling to register, each unto their own city.
4 At that time Joseph went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth to the land of Judea, unto the city of David which is named Bethlehem, because he was of the house and the line of David,
5 to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
6 And it came to pass that while they were there, the days of her pregnancy were fulfilled.
7 And she gave birth unto her firstborn Son; and wrapped Him, and set Him in the stable, because there was no room for them within the inn.
8 Now there were shepherds camping in the countryside and keeping watch over their flock by night,
9 and suddenly!1 an angel of God appeared before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were awestruck with great fear.2
10 And the angel said unto them, “Do not be afraid, for behold! I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be for all people;
11 For a Savior has been born unto you this day in the city of David, who is Christ, the Lord.
12 And this will be a sign to you: you will find the child wrapped and lying in a stable”
13 Then suddenly! There with the angel was a multitude of the heavenly hosta praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth and hope unto mankind3”
15 And it came to pass, after the angel had withdrawn from them unto heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which has come to pass that the Lord has made known to us”
16 So in haste they went, and found both Mary and Joseph, lying with the Child in the stable.
17 And having seen, they gave the report concerning the message, telling them about the Child.
18 And all who heard marveled regarding the things spoken unto them by the shepherds.
19 And Mary treasured all these matters, pondering them in her heart.
20 Afterward the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it had been proclaimed unto them.
21 And when eight days had passed, He was circumcised; and they called Him by the name Jesus, as instructed by the angel before His conception in the womb.
22 And when the days of purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses they brought Him unto Jerusalem to dedicate Him to the Lord.
23 Just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Consecrate unto me every firstborn that opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and animal. They are mine”4
24 And to offer a sacrifice according that which is stated in the law, unto the Lord, “Two turtle-doves or two young pigeons”5
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem by the name of Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, undertaking the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 And it had been revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had seen Christ, the Lord.
27 And he followed through the Spirit into the temple; at that time the parents brought in the Child, (Jesus) to do on His behalf according to the customs of the law.
28 So he took Him in his arms, and consecrated Him unto God, then he said,2
29 “Lord, now you are letting your servant pass in perfect peace, according to Your word;1
30 for my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 which you prepared before all peoples,
32 a Light of revelation to the nations, and glory to your people, Israel”
33 And His Father and Mother were astonished by the things spoken concerning Him.
34 And Simeon blessed them and said unto Mary His mother, “Behold! He is set for the fall and rise many of in Israel, and for a sign of division;3
35 but as for you, a spearb will pierce through your own soul, so that the evil motives of many hearts would be revealed”2
36 And there was Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, from the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in many years, and widowed from her husband seven years from her virginity.
37 And she had remained a widow unto the point of seventy-four years of age. Although She had not detached from the temple, serving day and night along with fasts and prayers.
38 And in that same hour she came, giving thanks unto God and began speaking about Him unto all those who were expecting the redemption of Jerusalem.
39 And after everything according to the law of the Lord was fulfilled, they returned unto the land of Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
40 And the Child grew and became powerful, increasing in wisdom; and the favor of God was upon Him.
41 Now according to the custom, His parents would travel to Jerusalem to the feast of the Passover.
42 Therefore when he was twelve years of age, at that time they went up according to the custom of the Festival of Unleavened Bread6; c
43 But after the completion of the days, as they were returning, they left the boy (Jesus) behind in Jerusalem, although His parents had not realized it,
44 and thinking He was with the caravan, they went a day’s journey; then began looking for Him among their relatives and their friends.1
45 But after they could not find Him, they returned unto Jerusalem to look for Him.
46 And it came to pass after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, and listening to them and asking them questions.
47 And all who heard Him were astonished, by His insight, as well as, His answers.
48 And when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said unto Him, “Child, why have you done this to us? Look! Your father and I have been worrying, looking for You”
49 But He said unto them, “Why have you been looking Me? Do you not know that I must be in My Father’s house”
50 Yet they did not understand the message He had spoken to them.
51 And He went with them, and came unto Nazareth, and He was subject to them; but His mother kept all these events in memory, pondering them within her heart.
52 And Jesus continued increasing in wisdom and stature, with the grace of God and men.

Chapter 3
1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontius Pilate was the governor of Judea, and Herod was the tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother was the tetrarch of the region of Iturea, as well as, Traconitis, and Lysanias was the tetrarch of Abilene,
2 among the leaders of the priesthood were Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness.
3 So he went throughout the entire region surrounding the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance into the forgiveness of sins;
4 just as it is written in the scroll of the words of the prophet Isaiah, saying, “A voice crying out in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord. Make His paths straight!”
5 “Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked made plain and the rough paths, smoothed.
6 And the glory of God shall be revealed, and all flesh shall witness it together; for the mouth of God has spoken it”1
7 Then he was saying to a group of those who had come to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath?”
8 Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as a Father’ For I tell you, that God is capable of using even these stones to raise the children up unto Abraham.2
9 And even now the axe is at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.
10 Then a number of those people asked him, saying, “So then what shall we do”
11 So he answered them and said, “Whoever has two coats, let them give to he who has none and those who have food let them do likewise.
12 And even farmers came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”
13 So he said to them, “Nothing more than what has been appointed unto you to do”
14 And then the soldiers asked him, saying, “What shall we do?” So he said unto them, “Rob no one, slander no one, and be content with your provision”
15 Now the people were all expecting and were wondering within their hearts, if maybe John was the Christ,
16 John answered saying unto all of them, "Truly, I baptize you with water; but One is coming mightier than I, whose sandal straps I’m unworthy to untie, He will baptize you with the Spirit and fire,
17 Whose winnowing fan is in His hand, He will cleanse His threshing floor; then gather the wheat into His storehouses, but He will burn the chaff in the everlasting fire.3
18 And he would preach many other encouraging things unto the people.
19 But Herod the tetrarch having been rebuked by him in relation to Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip,4 as well as, in regards to all the evil things that Herod had done,
20 after adding together all these things: he had John imprisoned.
21 Now it came to pass while all the people were being baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and as He was praying, heaven was opened,
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in a bodily shape like a dove and a voice came from heaven “You are My beloved Son, in you I Am well pleased”
23 And Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age as the supposed Son of Joseph, the son of Heli,1
24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
25 the son of Mattithias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattithias, the son of Semei, the son of Joseph, the son of Joda
27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri
28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,
30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Aram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,
34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,
36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37 the son of Methusaleh, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Kenan,
38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Chapter 4
1 Then Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, turned His back away from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.1
2 Being tempted forty days by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days. After they ended He was starving.
3 And the devil said to Him, “If you are the Son of God command that these stones be turned into bread”
4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man will not live by bread alone, but rather by ever word that proceeds from the testimony of God’2”
5 Then the devil took Him atop a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the earth and their glory in a moments time3
6 Then the devil said to Him, “i will give You authority over all this and the glory of them; for it has been permitted me, and I give it to whomever i desire.
7 Now if you bow down before me in worship, all this will be Yours”
8 And in response unto him, Jesus said,3 “Be gone satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only’4”
9 Then He was taken by him to Jerusalem, and together they stood above the pinnacle of the temple, and he said to Him, “If you are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here;
10 For it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning you’5;
11 And ‘They shall carry you up in their hands, lest your foot strike against stone’6”
12 And in response to him, Jesus said, “It is said, ‘You shall not tempta the Lord your God’7”
13 When the devil had finished his every temptation, at that time he left Him.
14 Afterward Jesus returned unto Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and reports about Him spread throughout the entire region.
15 And He was teaching in their synagogues, being honored by all.
16 Then He went to Nazareth, where He was raised; and on the Sabbath day He entered into the synagogue, as was His custom, and stood up to read aloud.
17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed unto Him. And He unrolled the scroll, having found the place where it is written,
18 “The Spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me; for the Lord has anointed me to preach the good tidings unto the humble. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives, and to release the prisoners who are bound.8
19* To proclaim the year of the Lord’s will, the day of the deliveranceb of our God; to comfort all that greive”9
20 After rolling up the scroll and returning it to the attendant, He sat down; And the eyes of the entire congregation were fixated upon Him.
21 And He began speaking to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your ears”
22 And everyone was speaking well of Him, and marveled at the gracious words which were proceeding from His mouth; and was saying, “Is this not the Son of Joseph?”
23 Then He said unto them, “All of you will speak this proverb unto Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself’ As much as we have heard has taken place in Capernaum is appointed here also in your own country”10
24 Then He said, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in their own country.
25 And truthfully I tell you, that there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were shut for three years and six months, as a great famine swept across the entire land;
26 yet he was sent to none of them, except Zarephath of Sidon, unto a woman, a widow.
27 And there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian”
28 When all the people in the synagogue heard these things, they were filled with wrath;
29 after getting up, they brought Him out of the city, and led Him unto an edge of the hill upon which their city was built, in order to throw Him off.
30 But He walked through their midst, going along on His way.
31 Afterward He came down unto Capernaum, a city of Galilee; and He was teaching them upon the Sabbath day;
32 And they marveled at His teaching, for He would preach with power.
33 Now in the synagogue there was a man possessed by the unclean spirit of a demon, and he cried out in a loud voice,10
34 “Leave! What is there between us and You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to damn us? i know who You are; the Holy One of God!”
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” After the demon had thrown him down amidst the people, it came out of him, tormenting him no longer.11
36 And astonishment set upon all, and they were speaking among themselves, saying, “What doctrine10 is this? For with authority and power, He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out”
37 Afterward a report of Him went out throughout every surrounding region.
38 Upon rising up out of the synagogue, He entered into the house of Simon. And Simon’s mother-in-law was sick with a high fever, so they entreated Him on her behalf.
39 And after He had stood over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and at once she arose, beginning to attend to them.
40 As the sun was setting, the people brought Him all those who were sick with various diseases; and every single one of them He laid hands upon, was healed.10
41 And even the demons were coming out of many, crying out and saying, “You are the Son of God” But He rebuked them, not allowing them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ.
42 When daylight had come they departed, having gone into a solitary place: but the multitudes were seeking after Him, and came unto Him, and detained Him, so that He would not go from them.
43 And so He said unto them, “I must preach the good tidings of God to other cities also, unto this purpose I was sent”11
44 And He preached throughout the synagogues of Galilee.

Chapter 5
1 Now it came to pass after the multitude had been held back, and was listening1 to the word of God, at that time He had been standing by the lake of Gennesaret;
2 and He saw two boats sitting beside the lake; but their fishermen had stepped away to wash their nets.1
3 So He stepped onto one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a short distance from the land. After sitting down on the boat, from the boat He began preaching unto multitudes.1
4 And after He finished teaching, He said unto Simon, “Set out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch”
5 But Simon answered and said, “Teacher, we have worked throughout the entire night and caught nothing, but at your word I will let down the nets”
6 Upon doing it, they enclosed a great many fish, and their nets began to tear.
7 So they signaled to their companions in the other boat to come help them, and they came and filled both the boats, to such an extent that they were beginning to sink.
8 When Simon, Peter, saw this, he fell to his knees before Jesus, saying, “Away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man Lord”
9 Because wonder had seized him, and all those with them on account of the catch of fish which they had taken in;1
10 Now His partners were James and John, the sons of Zebedee. And He said unto them, “Come, you are no longer to be fishermen, for I will make you fishers of men”2
11 Then they pulled the boats onto the land, leaving everything to follow Him.
12 And it came to pass, while He was in one of the cities, behold! There was a man covered with leprosy. Upon seeing Jesus, he fell facedown begging Him, saying, “Lord if You will it, You are able to cleanse me”
13 So He stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I Am willing; be cleansed” and at once the leprosy departed from him.
14 Then He instructed him, “Tell no one, but go show yourself to a priest and present the sacrifices for your cleansing, which Moses commanded as a testimony unto them”
15 Nevertheless word of Him spread all the more, and great multitudes began gathering to listen to Him and to be healed by Him of their sicknesses.
16 So He withdrew to a solitary place, and prayed.
17 And it took place during one of the days, as He was teaching some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law were seated there, who came from every village of Galilee and Judea, as well as, Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 Then suddenly! A group of men brought a man lying upon a mat paralyzed, and they were looking for a way to bring him in, and set him before Him.
19 But when they found no way to bring him in because of the multitude, they climbed onto the roof, letting him down through the tiles together with his mat into the midst before Jesus.
20 When He had seen their faith, He said unto the man, “Your sins are forgiven”
21 Then the scribes and the Pharisees began reasoning, saying, “Who is this Man that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sin except God alone?”
22 But Jesus knew what they were thinking, and responded by saying unto them, “Why are you thinking these things within your hearts?3
23 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’
24 But, so that you know that the Son of Man has the power on the earth to forgive sins” Then He said unto the paralytic, “Get up, take your mat and go to your house”
25 And at once he got up in front of them, took up his mat, and went to his house praising God.2
26 And awe seized them all, and they praised God, and were filled with reverence, saying, “Today we have witnessed a miracle”
27 Afterward walking along, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting in a tax collector’s booth, and He said unto him, “Follow Me”2
28 And he got up, left everything and followed Him.
29 Afterward, Levi held Him a great feast in his house; and there were many farmers, as well as, others who were at the table with them.
30 But because of this the Pharisees and the scribes were murmuring at His disciples, saying, “Why are you eating and drinking with farmers and sinners?”
31 So Jesus responded by saying unto them, “It is not the healthy who have need of a healer, but those who have a sickness.
32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinnersa”
33 Then they said to Him, “The disciples of John fast often and likewise offer prayers, as with those of the Pharisees; so why are yours eating and drinking?”4
34 Then Jesus said unto them, “Do the sons of the bridegroom fast while He is with them?4
35 But the day will come when the Bridegroom shall be taken from them, and in those days they shall fast”
36 Then He spoke another parable unto them, “No one tears a patch of cloth from new clothing to sew it onto old clothing; or else otherwise it will divide away from the new, and the old will not agree with the patch from the new.4
37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and it will flow out, and the wineskins will be destroyed.
38 Instead you must put new wine into new wineskins and both shall be preserved.4
39 And no one who drinks the old desires the new, for His ancient word is good”4

Chapter 6
1 Now it came to pass as He was going through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to pick the heads of the grain and they were eating, threshing with their hands.4
2 But some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why are you doing something not lawful to do on the Sabbath day?”4
3 So in response Jesus said unto them, “Have you never even read what David did, when He and those with him were hungry,4
4 how he entered into the house of God, and took the bread of the presence and ate, and gave some to those with him, something not lawful to be eaten, except only by priests”
5 Then He said unto them, “The Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath”4
6 And it came to pass on another Sabbath He entered into the synagogue and taught. And there was a man and his right hand was withered.
7 Now the scribes and the Pharisees were watching if He would heal him on the Sabbath that they might find a charge against Him.4
8 But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man who had a withered hand, “Step forward, and come into the center” After stepping forward, there he stood.
9 Then Jesus said unto them, “I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath, to do good or evil, to save life or destroy it?”4
10 After looking upon them all, He said unto the man, “Stretch out your hand” So he did, and his hand was restored unto the likeness of His other hand.4
11 But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another, what they would do to Jesus.
12 And it came to pass in those days, He went to a mountain to pray and passed the entire the night in a place of prayer unto God.2
13 And when it had become day, He called His disciples and chose twelve of them, whom He also named apostles:
14 Simon, who He also surnamed Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James and John; and Philip and Batholomew;
15 as well as, Matthew and Thomas; and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who is called the Zealot;4
16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became the betrayer.
17 After coming down with them, He stood upon a plain with a great many of His disciples, and a great multitude from all of Judea and Jerusalem, and Athens, as well as, the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
18 Who had come to hear Him, and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled by impure spirits were being healed.
19 And the entire multitude was trying to touch Him, for power went forth through Him and was healing them all.
20 And He lifted His eyes unto His disciples, saying, “Blessed are the lowly in spirit: for yours is the kingdom of God.a
21 Blessed are those who hunger now: for you shall be filled. Blessed are those who suffer now; for they will rejoice.
22 Blessed are you when those of mankind hate you, and when they ostracize you, and slander your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.2
23 Be joyous on that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in this same way their fathers are still opposing the prophets.
24 But woe unto you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
25 Woe unto you who have had your fill now, for you shall hunger. Woe unto those who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.3
26 Woe unto you when all of mankind speaks well of you, for their fathers still do this unto the lying prophets.3
27 But I say unto you, those who hear; love your enemies, do good unto those who hate you,
28 Bless those that curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.3
29 To the one who slaps you on the right cheek, turn also the other; and whoever takes away your cloak, do not deny him your tunic.3
30 Give to all those who ask; and from the one who takes what is yours, do not ask for it back.3
31 And as you should have mankind do unto you, do you also unto them3
32 For if you love those who love you, what thanks will you have? For even the sinners love those who love them.
33 For truly if you only do good to those who do good to you what reward will you have? Even the sinners do the same.3
34 For if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, whose favor will you have? Even sinners lend to the sinners in order to receive the interest.3
35 But love your enemies, and do good to them and lend, and do not cut the hope of any man off;4 that your reward shall be great, and that you might become the children of the Most High; because He is merciful.
36 Therefore be merciful, as your Father in heaven is merciful.
37 Do not pass judgment, lest you be judged; and do not be condemning, lest you be condemned; be forgiving, and you shall be forgiven; release it, and you shall be released.4
38 Give, that you may be given unto. And they will bestow upon your mantle a good measure, pressed low, and shaken together, overflowing. For with the same measure with which you measure, it will be measured unto you”
39 And then He spoke a parable unto them: “No blind man can lead the blind, or else they will both fall into a pit.
40 The disciple is not above the Teacher; but the one who has matured is like their Teacher.
41 And why are you looking at the speck in your brother’s eye, but will not consider the plank in your own eye.
42 Or how will you be able to say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck in your eye’ When you won’t consider the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brothers eye.
43 And no good tree brings forth evil fruit, furthermore,3 nor does an evil tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed people cannot gather figs from the thorns, nor gather grapes from a bramble bush.
45 The Good man from out of the good treasures of His heart brings forth that which is good, but the evil man from out treasures of his heart brings forth that which is evil; for from that which fills the heart, the mouth speaks.
46 And why are you calling Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ But not doing what I say?
47 Whoever comes to Me and listen unto Me, and practices My words, I will tell you who he is like:
48 he is like a man building his house, who dug and hollowed, and laid a foundation within the rock; afterward, the floods came, a torrent struck against that house, but could not shake it: for its foundation was within the rock.5
49 But he who has heard, and does not practice the same, is like a man who built his house upon the earth without a foundation; which the floods struck against and at once it fell, and it came to pass that the fall of the house was grave”3

Chapter 7
1 And after He had finished all of His teachings in the hearing of the people, He went unto Capernaum.
2 Now a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him, had become sick and was about to die.
3 So when he heard about Jesus, he sent the elders of the Jews to Him, to ask Him to come and heal his servant.
4 And so they came to Jesus, urgently asking Him, saying, “he is worthy that He do this thing;
5 because he loves our people and he built us a synagogue”
6 So Jesus went with them; but when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent his companions, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself; for I’m unworthy that you should come under my roof.1
7 For this reason I neither considered myself worthy to come to you, but speak the word and my servant will be healed.
8 For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘do this’ and he does it”
9 Upon hearing this, Jesus marveled at him and turned to the multitudes following Him, saying, “I tell you, not in all of Israel have I found such great faith”
10 Afterward those who were sent returned to the house, they found his servant in good health.1
11 Now it came to pass on the next day, He went to a city named Nain; and His disciples went with Him, as well as, a great multitude.1
12 But after He had drawn near to the gate of the city, behold! There was a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and a large number of people from the city were with her.1
13 When Jesus saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said unto her, “Do not weep”2
14 Therefore after coming forward, He touched the casket; and those who were carrying it stopped. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, rise up!”
15 And the dead man sat up and began speaking. And He gave him to his mother.
16 And fear struck them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great Prophet has risen among us!” as well as, “God has visited His people!”1
17 And word of this spread throughout the entire land of Judea, and all the surrounding regions.
18 And the disciples of John reported all of this to him.
19 So after calling a certain two of his disciples, John sent them to ask Jesus, “Are you the One who comes, or do we look for another”3
20 And after they had come to Him, these men said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask you, ‘Are you the One who comes, or do we look for another?’ ”
21 Now throughout that day He had healed many with diseases and afflictions, as well as, those with impure spirits; and He gave sight unto the blind.3
22 And in response to them, He said, “Go back and report unto John what you have you seen and heard; the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good tidings are preached to the poor.1
23 Blessed are those who do not stumble on account of Me”
24 When the messengers of John left, He spoke to the multitudes concerning John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?1
25 What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? Look! Those who wear fancy clothes and live in luxury, dwell in palaces.
26 So then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes I tell you, and more than a prophet.
27 This is one who it is written about, ‘Behold, I send My messenger ahead of you, to keep you in the way and lead you into the land I have prepared for you’4
28 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there is none greater than John; but the one who is the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.3
29 After hearing this, all of the people, even the farmers were justified unto God by being baptized by the baptism of John.
30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law rejected God’s will, having not been baptized by him.
31 And the Lord said, “But unto what might I liken the people of this generation, and what are they like?
32 They are likened unto little children sitting in the marketplace, and calling out unto the others, saying,‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance, we sang a dirge, but you did not mourn’
33 For John the Baptist came neither to eat bread nor drink wine, yet they say, ‘He has a demon’
34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold! A gluttonous man and a drunkard, beloved by farmers and sinners’
35 Yet Wisdom is vindicated by all Her works”3
36 Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him, so after He had entered into a house of Pharisees He sat down at the table.
37 And behold, there was a woman in the city, a sinner; and when she discovered that He was dining in the house of the Pharisee’s, she brought an alabaster jar of ointment,
38 and after standing at His feet behind Him, weeping, she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiping them off with the hairs of her head, and she was kissing His feet and anointing them with the ointment.
39 But when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw, he spoke within himself, saying, “If this Man were a prophet He would have known what kind of women this is that is touching Him, for she is a sinner”
40 But in response to him, Jesus said, “Simon, I have something to say to you” he replied, “Speak it, Teacher”
41 “There was a moneylender with two debtors: one of them owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42 But when they were unable to pay, he generously forgave both of them. Therefore tell Me, which of them shall love Him most?”
43 And Simon answered, saying to Him, “I suppose the one who He forgave the most” And He said, “You have judged properly”
44 After turning to the woman, He said unto Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with tears and wiped them with her hair.
45 You gave Me no kiss; but from the time I entered she has not stopped kissing My feet.
46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with ointment.
47 Because of this I say unto you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she has loved greatly; but the one who forgives little, loves little”
48 Then He said unto her, “Your sins are forgiven”
49 But those sitting at the table began speaking amongst themselves, “Who is this Man who even forgives sins?”
50 Then He said unto the woman, “Your faith has saved you, go in peace”
