The Gospel According
to
John
Chapter 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him; and apart from Him not one thing was made that ever existed.
4 Within Him is life, and within the life was the Light of mankind.1
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.
6 There was a man sent by God, whose name was John.
7 This man came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all people might come to believe through him.
8 He was not the Light, but he testified unto the Light.
9 For the Light of the Truth, which gives Light unto all mankind was coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world came to exist through Him, but the world does not know Him.
11 He came to His own people, but His own would not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, He bestowed unto them the option to become children of God, unto those who are faithful to His name,
13 a people not born of blood, nor born of the desires of the flesh, nor of the will of mankind, but born of God.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory of a unique child born of the Father) full of grace and the Truth.
15 John testified concerning Him and shouted out, saying, “This is the One of whom I said, ‘The One who comes after me is greater than me, because He existed before me’ ”
16 And from His fulfillment, we all have received grace for grace.
17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.2
18 No mana has seen God at any time; only the child of God, who lives in the midst of the Father, who has revealed Him.
19 Now this is the record of John, after the Jews had sent forth priests and Levites out of Jerusalem, so that they could ask him, “Who are you?”2
20 So he confessed and would not deny, “I’m not the Christ”
21 And again they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” But he said, “I’m not” “Are you one of the prophets?” But he replied, “No”
22 So they said to Him, “Who are you, so that we can give report unto those who sent us, what do you call yourself?”
23 He said, “I’m ‘a voice crying out in the wilderness, make straight the Lord's path’3 as the prophet Isaiah said”
24 Then those who had been sent from the Pharisees
25 also questioned him, and said to him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, or a prophet?”
26 John replied to them, saying, “I baptize you with water, but among you is standing One whom you do not know.2
27 He who comes after me, One who existed before me, of whose sandal straps I’m unworthy to untie”2
28 This happened at Bethany, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29* The next day, John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who loves even the sinful of the world.b
30 This is the One about whom I said, ‘The One who comes after me is greater than me, because He existed before me’
31 And I didn’t understand it but, so that He might be made known unto Israel, to this end I have come baptizing with water”
32 And John testified, saying, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from the heavens, and remaining upon Him.
33 And I did not recognize Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water said unto me, ‘The One upon whom you see the Holy Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit’
34 I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Chosen Son of God”1
35 The following day once more, John was standing together with two of his disciples,
36 and when he saw Jesus walking he said, “Behold, the lamb of God!”
37 But when two of his disciples heard his words, they both followed Jesus.2
38 Then Jesus turned and saw them following behind Him, and He said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to Him, “Rabbi (Which is interpreted as Teacher) where are you staying?”
39 And He said unto them, “Come and you shall see”2 So they came and saw the place He was staying; and they remained with Him that day, and it was about the tenth hour.
40 It was Andrew (the Brother of Simon, Peter) out of the two who had heard John, and followed Him.
41 First he found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah (which is interpreted as, The Christ)2
42 And he led him to Jesus. After looking at him, Jesus said, “You are Simon the son of John, you shall be called Cephas” (Which is interpreted as Peter)2
43 The following day, Jesus planned to go to Galilee, so He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me”
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the same city as Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip found Nathanael and declared unto him, “We have found, the One who Moses and the Prophets wrote about in the law, Jesus the Son of Joseph, One from Nazareth”1
46 And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see”
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards Him and in regards to him, He said “Behold, a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit”
48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were beneath the fig tree, I saw you”
49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel”
50 In response to him, Jesus said, “You believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these”
51 Then He said to him, “Very truly I tell you, you will see the heavens open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man”2

Chapter 2
1 Now on the third day a wedding was held in Cana of Galilee, and Jesus’ mother was there;
2 And she invited both Jesus and His disciples unto the wedding.
3 After the wine had run out, Jesus’ mother said to Him “They have no wine”
4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you involving Me?, My hour has not yet come”
5 His mother said unto the servants, “Whatever He instructs you, do”
6 Now there were six vessels out according to the purification ritual of the Jews, each with room for two or three firkins.a
7 And Jesus said to them, “Fill the vessels with water” So they filled them to the brim.
8 And He said to them, “Then draw and bring it unto the ruler of the feast” So they brought it.
9 And as soon as the ruler tasted the water that had turned into wine, although he didn’t know where it had come from, (but the servants who drew the liquid knew) the ruler called the bridegroom.
10 And said to him, “Every man first brings forth the fine wine, then after they drink to the full, the poorer wine; but you have saved the best wine for last”
11 This was the beginning of the miracles Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, the first as to make His glory known, and His disciples believed in Him.
12 After these events He journeyed down to Capernaum, and He and His mother and His brethren; but they did not stay there many days.1
13 Now it was nearing the Jewish Passover, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 But within the temple He found people who were selling sheep and oxen and doves, and those seated with temple treasurers.
15 So Jesus fashioned a whip out of ropes, and drove them all out of the temple, even the sheep and the oxen; along with the temple treasurers, and He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;1
16 and He said unto those who had been selling doves, “Take these things out of here; do not make the house of My Father a marketplace”
17 And His disciples remembered that it is written, “Zeal for your house consumes Me”2
18 So the Jews responded and said unto Him, “What miracle will you show us that made you do these things?”
19 Jesus replied and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up”
20 And the Jews said to Him, “It has taken forty six years to build this temple, and you will raise it up in three days?”
21 But at that time He was speaking about the temple of His body.
22 Therefore after He was resurrected from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had spoken these things to them; and they fully believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
23 Afterward while He was in Jerusalem during the Passover, at the feast, many believed in His name, seeing the miracles He was doing.
24 But Jesus did not entrust Himself unto them, for He knew all mankind,1
25 and because He had no need for anyone testify about those of men, for He Himself knew what was within those of mankind.

Chapter 3
1 And there was a man among the Pharisees, called Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;
2 who came to Jesus by night and told Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher that has come from God; for no one can do the miracles You are doing unless God is with them”
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, “Very truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, they cannot see the kingdom of God”1
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born again after he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be reborn?”
5 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and Spirit, they cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, but that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit.
7 Do not be surprised that I told you, you must be born again.
8 The wind blows wheresoever it wills, and you hear its voice, but you do not know from where it has come, and wherever it goes so do all those born of water and of the Spirit”
9 Nicodemus replied and said to Him, “How can this be?”
10 Jesus responded and said to him, “You are a teacher of Israel and don't know this?
11 Very truly I tell you that we speak of what we know, and testify unto that which we have seen, yet you do not receive our testimony.
12 If I speak unto you concerning earthly things, and you will not believe, how will you believe if I speak to you concerning heavenly things?
13 Truly, no one can ascend into heaven unless they are of heaven, led by the Son of Man.
14 And just as Moses raised up the serpent in the wilderness, in this same manner the Son of Man must be raised up;a
15 so that anyone who believes in Him shall have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His Son, His unique child, so that anyone who believes in Him shall not die, but has life eternal.1
17 For God did not send the Son into world to judge the world, but so that the people of the world might be saved through Him.1
18 Those who believe in Him shall not be condemned, but those who do not believe, have already been condemned, because they do not believe in the name of the unique Son of God.1
19 And this is the judgment, that the Light of truth came into the world, but those of mankind love the lies of the darkness more than the Light of truth for their works are evil.
20 For those who practice evil, hate the Light and they do not come to the Light lest their works be made known.
21 But those who practice the truth come to the Light, so that their works are made known, so that through God they become accomplished”
22 After this Jesus left into the land of Judea with His disciples, and there He stayed with them and He was baptizing.
23 Now John was also baptizing in the Aenon close to Salim, for there was much water: and the people came and were baptized.
24 Because John had not yet been put in prison.
25 And a dispute took place between the disciples of John and a Jew regarding the purification.
26 So they went to John and said to him, “Rabbi the Man who was with you beside the Jordan, to whom you testified, behold, He is baptizing and everyone is going to Him”
27 John answered and said, “A man cannot receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.
28 You yourselves are witnesses that I said that, ‘I’m not the Christ’ But I am sent before Him.1
29 the one who has the bride is a bridegroom; and a friend of the bridegroom stands by him, and listens to him, gladly rejoicing at the sound of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore He is my joy brought to completion.
30 He must increase, but the i decrease.
31 Those who are from above are above all things, but those of the earth are of the earth and they speak of the earth. One has come down from heaven.
32 Those who have seen and heard, testify of these things; but no man receives their testimony.
33 Those who have received His testimony, attest that God is truth.
34 For those who God has sent speak the teachings of God; for He bestows the Spirit without measure.1
35 The Father loves the Son and has entrusted all things into His hand.
36 Those who believe in the Son have life eternal; but those who do not believe in the Son will not see life, rather the wrath of God abides upon them”1

Chapter 4
1 But after Jesus realized that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus had made and baptized more disciples than John,1
2 (although at that time Jesus himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were)
3 He left Judea and went once more to the land of Galilee.
4 And it was necessary He travel through the land of Samaria.
5 Therefore they came unto a city in the land of Samaria called Sychar, near a parcel of land which Jacob had given to his son Joseph;2
6 now Jacob’s well was nearby. And Jesus was tired from the journey, so He was sitting upon the well. It was around the sixth hour.2
7 A women of Samaria came to draw water. And He said to her, “Will you give Me a drink?”
8 Since His disciples had gone into the city to buy food.
9 So the woman (who was a Samaritan) said to Him, “How can You, a Jew, ask me a Samaritan woman for a drink?” (Because the Jews did not associate with Samaritans)2
10 Jesus replied and said to her, “If you had known the gift of God, and who it was that said to you, ‘Will you give me a drink’ you could have asked Him, and He would have given you living water”
11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where will you get this living water?2
12 Are you greater than our forefather Jacob, who has given us this well, and drank from it himself with his sons and their livestock?”
13 Jesus replied and said to her, “Anyone who drinks of this water shall thirst again;
14 But whoever drinks of the water that I give unto them shall never thirst throughout all eternity, rather the water I shall give unto them shall become within them a spring of water welling up into eternal life”2
15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give this water to me, so that I do not grow thirsty or have to come here to draw”2
16 Jesus said unto her, “Go, call your husband, then return here”2
17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband” So Jesus said to her, “You have spoken correctly, saying, ‘I have no husband’;2
18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you are with now is not your husband; so you have spoken correctly”
19 Then the woman said to Him, “Sir, I see that You’re a prophet.
20 Our forefathers worshiped at this mountain; but your people say that in Jerusalem is where we must worship”a
21 Then Jesus said unto her, “Woman, believe Me that the time is coming when you shall neither worship the Father at this mountain, nor in Jerusalem.2
22 You worship that which you do not know; we worship that which we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 But the time comes and now is, when true believers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for truly the Father seeks such people to be His worshippers.
24 God is Spirit; therefore it is necessary to worship Him in spirit and in truth”
25 Then the woman said to Him, “I know that the Messiah comes, the One called the Christ. When He comes He will explain everything to us”1
26 Jesus said to her, “I Am He, whom speaks to you”1
27 Now during these things His disciples came, and were surprised that He was speaking with the woman. Nevertheless, no one asked Him, “What do you need?” or, “Why are you speaking with her?”1
28 At that time the woman left her water jug behind, and went to the city and proclaimed unto all the people,
29 “Come see this Man, He told me everything I have done; is He not the Christ?”1
30 So they came forth from the city, and went to Him.1
31 Meanwhile, His disciples were beseeching Him, saying, “Teacher, eat”1
32 But He said to them, “I have partaken of nourishment you do not perceive”
33 Therefore the disciples were saying unto one another, “Did someone bring Him food?”
34 So Jesus said unto them, “My nourishment is to do the will of the One who sent Me and accomplish His work.1
35 Did you not say, ‘There are only four months, then the harvest comes’? Behold, I say unto you, lift your eyes and look upon the fields, for they are already radiant, nearing the harvest.
36 Those who harvest are gathering a reward, and they gather the crop into life eternal; so that together, those who sow also rejoice with those who harvest.1
37 I Am sending all of you to harvest where you have not toiled; others have toiled and you have entered into their work”
38 And among that city many Samaritans believed in Him on account of the report of the woman who testified, “He told me everything I have done”
39 And afterward the Samaritans came to Him, asking Him to stay with them; so He remained with them two days.1
40 And many more believed on account of His teaching;
41 and they said to the woman, “It is no longer on account of your testimony that we believe, for we have heard from Him ourselves and know that this Man truly is the Savior of the world”1
42 And after the two days He went from that place into the land of Galilee.1
43 For Jesus Himself proclaimed that a prophet has no honor in His own country.1
44 Then as they were coming into Galilee, all of the Galileans welcomed Him, having witnessed all the things He had done in Jerusalem during the feast; because they also had gone to the feast.
45 So then they came once more to Galilee where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a monarch, whose son was sick in Capernaum.1
46 After he had heard that Jesus had come out of the land of Judea into the land of Galilee, he went unto Him and asked that He come and heal his son; because he was about to die.1
47 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see the signs and wonders, you will not believe”1
48 Then the monarch said to Him, “Lord, come before my son dies”
49 So Jesus said to Him, “Go; your son shall live” The man believed the word which Jesus had declared and left.
50 While he was traveling back, his servants came to him, and reported that his son would live.1
51 And he asked the time at which he began to heal. And they said to him, “Yesterday around the seventh hour the fever left him”1
52 At that time the father knew that it was in the same hour that Jesus had said to him, “Your son shall live” Therefore he himself believed along with his entire house.1
53 Furthermore this was the second miracle Jesus had done after going out of Judea into the land of Galilee.1

a. The Samaritan Bible has been edited, so that in their versions of the Bible it states that the proper place of worship is at Mount Gerizim, however, the older manuscripts state that the location of worship is Israel at Jerusalem. Which is why the woman saying, “Our forefathers worshiped at this mountain”
Chapter 5
1 After these events was the festival of the Jews, so Jesus went up into Jerusalem.1
2 And in Jerusalem beside the sheep market there was a pool which in Hebrew is called Bethesda,a under the five aisles.b
3 Within this area were a great number lying sick, the blind, the lame, and the withered.1
4 And there was a man who had a sickness thirty eight years.
5 Now Jesus saw this man and knew that he had been sick a long time, So He said to him, “Do you desire to be healthy?”
6 The sick man answered Him, “Lord, I have no one that can place me in the pool after the water stirs, because whenever I draw near another goes ahead of me”
7 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your mat and walk”
8 And at once the man was healed, so he got up then took his mat and walked. However, this was on the Sabbath day.1
9 Because of this the Jews were saying to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, so it is not lawful for you to carry your mat”1
10 He replied to them, “The One that healed me said, ‘Get up, take up your mat and walk’ ”1
11 So they asked him, “Who is the One who said to you ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”1
12 But the one who had been healed didn’t know who He was, because Jesus had withdrawn into the midst of the multitudes there.
13 After these events, Jesus found him restored to health within the temple and said to him, “Behold, already you have become healthy; sin no more, lest something worse may happen to you”
14 Then that man went out and told the Jews that it was Jesus who healed him.1
15 And on account of this the Jews were persecuting Jesus, since He had done these things on the Sabbath day.1
16 But He answered them, “Even now My Father is working, therefore I Am also at work”1
17 Because of this the Jews instead sought to murder Him, because not only had He broken the Sabbath, but He also was saying God was His Father, making Himself equal in authority unto God.
18 So He replied and told them, “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself, except what He sees the Father doing; for whatsoever the Father does, this the Son also does.1
19 For the Father loves the Son, and teaches Him all the things that He Himself is doing; and He will bring forth greater works than these, so that all of you shall marvel.
20 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, likewise the Son also gives life unto whomsoever He wishes.
21 For the Father judges no man, but rather all judgment has been entrusted unto the Son,
22 in order that the whole shall honor the Son like they honor the Father, those who do not honor the Son do not honor the Father who sent Him.
23 Very truly I tell you, that those who listen to My word and believe the One who sent Me have life eternal, and shall not come unto judgment, but they have crossed over out of death into life.
24 Very truly I tell you, that the time comes and now is here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who listen shall live.1
25 For as the Father has life within Himself, in this same way He has also given unto the Son to have life within Himself;1
26 and He has given Him the authority to carry out judgment, because He is the Son of Man.1
27 Do not marvel at these things, for the time comes in which all those who are in the graves will hear His voice,1
28 and come forth; those who have done good into the resurrection of life, but those who have done evil into the resurrection of condemnation.1
29 By Myself I can do nothing. In the manner I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, for I seek not My own will, but the will of the Father who sent Me.
30 If I testify on behalf of Myself, My testimony would not be true.1
31 There is another who testifies on My behalf, and I know that the testimony He testifies on My behalf is true.1
32 You were sent unto John, and he testified unto the Truth.2
33 But I do not receive testimony from mankind, but rather I speak these things in order that you might be saved.2
34 That man was a lamp which was burning and giving light, and for a time you were willing to rejoice in His light.
35 But I have a testimony greater than John; for the tasks that the Father gave Me to complete, these are the works I Am doing. They testify on My behalf, that the Father has sent Me.
36 And the Father who sent Me testifies on My behalf. You have never heard His voice nor seen Him appear.1
37 And you do not have His word dwelling within you, for you do not believe those whom He has sent unto you.1
38 You look within the Scriptures since you believe through them holds life eternal; but they exist to testify about Me;1
39 but you will not come to Me that you might have life.1
40 I do not receive honor from mankind;
41 But I recognize you, that you do not have the love of God within yourselves.
42 I come in the name of My Father, but you will not receive Me; if another man had come in his own name, him you would receive.1
43 How can you believe by the approval you receive from one another, but not seek the approval of the one true God?1
44 Do not think that I will be your prosecutor before the Father; there is one who will prosecute you, Moses, in whom all of you place hope.
45 Because if you had believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.
46 But if you do not believe the Scriptures, how shall you believe My words?”

Chapter 6
1 And after these events Jesus left, crossing the Sea of Galilee (the Tiberias).
2 At that time a great multitude followed Him, because they had seen the miracles He was doing on the sick.
3 Then Jesus went up on a mountain and there He sat, together with His disciples.
4 And the Passover was drawing near, the festival of the Jews.
5 Afterward Jesus lifted up His eyes and seeing that a great multitude had come to Him, He said unto Phillip, “Where will we buy bread, so that they can eat?”
6 But He said this to prove Him, for He knew what He was going to do.1
7 And Philip replied to Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not enough for them, or else each of them shall have too little”2
8 a disciple of His, Andrew, Simon, (Peter's brother) said unto Him,
9 “There is a boy who has five loaves of barley and two small fish, but what is that among so many?”
10 Then Jesus said, “Have the people sit down” And in that place there was much grass, and the men who sat down numbered around five thousand.1
11 Then Jesus took the loaves, having given thanks, He apportioned it unto the disciples, and the disciples unto those who were sitting; and in the same way the people ate of the fish, as much as they wanted.1
12 And after they were full, He said unto His disciples, “Gather together the left over broken pieces so that none of them are lost”
13 So they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the broken pieces of the five loaves of barley, above and beyond what they ate.1
14 And the people looked upon the miracle Jesus did, saying, “Truly this is the Prophet, the One to come unto the world”1
15 But Jesus knew that they were intending to come and seize Him to appoint Him King, so once more He withdrew alone into a mountain.1
16 And after evening had come, His disciples went down unto the sea,
17 And having boarded a boat, they started across the sea unto Capernaum, but it had become dark, yet Jesus had not yet come to them.1
18 Then the wind began to blow fiercely, stirring up the sea.
19 But after they had rowed a distance of about twenty or thirty furlongs, they saw Jesus walking upon the sea and approaching the boat; and they were aghast.1
20 So He said to them, “It is I; do not fear”
21 And they wished to receive Him onto the boat, and shortly afterward the boat came to the land unto which they were going.2
22 On the following day the multitudes that stood upon the other side of the sea realized that there was no other boat there, except the one in which Jesus’ other disciples had boarded, and that Jesus had not boarded with His disciples, but instead His disciples had left by themselves,2
23 although there were other boats that had come from the Tiberias nearby the place where they had eaten the bread and gave thanks unto the Lord.1
24 Therefore when the multitude saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they got onto boats, and went into Capernaum to seek Jesus.
25 After they found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did You come to this place?”
26 So He replied to them and said, “Very truly I tell you, you do not seek Me because you have seen the signs, but because you did eat of the bread and were satisfied.1
27 Do not serve the food which perishes, but the bread which endures unto life eternal, which the Son of Man shall give you, for such as these God the Father, has marked with a seal”1
28 So they said unto Him, “What must we do, so that we can work the works of God?”
29 Jesus replied and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you would believe upon the One who He has sent”1
30 Then they said to Him, “What miracle will you perform, so that we might see, and believe you?
31 Our forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness; just as it is written, ‘Behold, I will rain bread from the heavens for you’3”
32 Jesus said to them, “Very, truly I tell you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gave you the bread from out of the heavens, the truth1
33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life unto the world”
34 And they said unto Him, “Lord, give us this bread”
35 Then Jesus told them, “I Am the bread of life; the one who comes unto Me shall never hunger, and those who believe in Me shall never thirst.1
36 But I tell you that truly you have seen Me, but you do not believe.1
37 All those the Father gives unto Me will come before Me, and those who draw near to Me, I will never send away.1
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
39 And this is the will of the One who sent Me, that the whole that He has given unto Me are not destroyed by Him, but are raised unto Him on the last day.4
40 For this is the will of My Father that all who see the Son and believe in Him shall have life eternal, and I will raise them up on the last day.1
41 So then the Jews murmured about Him, because He said, “I Am the bread” “Which comes down from heaven”
42 And they said, “Is this Man not Jesus, the Son of Joseph? Whose father and whose mother we know? How can He now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”1
43 Therefore Jesus replied and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves.1
44 No man can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them; and I shall raise them up on the last day.1
45 It is written in the prophets, ‘All your children will be instructed by the Lord’5 everyone who has heard from the Father and understood, comes to Me.1
46 Though no man has seen the Father, only those who are of God, such as these have seen the Father.
47 Very truly I tell you, that those who believe have life eternal.1
48 I Am the bread of life.
49 Your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and died.2
50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that anyone who eats of Him also cannot die.2
51 I Am the bread of life, which has come down from the heavens; if anyone eats of this bread they shall live forever, and the bread which I give is My flesh that I give for the life of the world”2
52 So then the Jews started quarreling amongst one another, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”2
53 So then Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you will not have life eternal within you.
54 Those who eat My flesh and drink My blood will have life eternal, and I shall raise them up on the last day.
55 For My flesh is the true food, and My blood is the true drink.1
56 Those who eat My flesh and drink My blood abide within Me, and I within them.
57 Just as the living Father sent Me, and I live through the Father, therefore those who eat Me, shall also live through Me.1
58 This is the bread that has come down from heaven; not as your forefathers ate the manna and died; whosoever eats of this bread will live forever”6
59 These words were spoken within the synagogue as He was teaching in Capernaum.
60 Upon hearing this many of His disciples said, “This is a difficult teaching, who could understand it?”
61 Then Jesus realized within Himself that His disciples were murmuring about this teaching, so He said unto them, “Is this causing you to stumble?
62 What then if you behold the Son of Man ascend unto the place He was before?
63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits none; these words which I have spoken unto you are Spirit and life.
64 But there are some among you that do not believe” Because the Savior from the beginning had known who they were that did not believe, and who it was that intended to betray Him.2
65 And He said, “Because of this I said unto you, that no man can come to Me unless it is given him by the Father”2
66 After these things, many of the disciples left returning to where they were from, and walked with Him no furthur.2
67 So Jesus said unto the twelve, “Do you not also desire to leave?”2
68 At that time Simon, Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.2
69 And we believe and have come to understand that You are the Holy One of God”1
70 Jesus answered and said unto them, “Have I not chosen you twelve? But one of you is the devil”
71 And He was speaking of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, indeed one of the twelve, was about to betray Him.1

Chapter 7
1 After these events Jesus walked in the land of Galilee, for He did not wish to walk in Judea because the Jews were trying to kill Him.1
2 However the festival of the Jews was drawing near, the Festival of Tabernacles.
3 Therefore His brethren told Him, “Leave this place and go into Judea, so that your disciples shall witness the works your doing.1
4 For no Man in hiding seeks to make Himself known in the open. If you do these things, You will make Yourself known unto the world”2
5 For all of His brethren believed in Him.2
6 Then Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always in reach.2
7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me for I testify about it, that its works are evil.
8 All of you go unto the festival yourselves; I might not go unto this festival, for My time is not yet fulfilled”1
9 After speaking these words to them, He stayed in Galilee.1
10 But after His brethren had gone up to the festival, He then also went, not openly, but in secret.1
11 Now the Jews were looking for Him at the festival and said, “Where is He?”
12 And among the multitudes many people were whispering about Him. Some were saying, “He is good”;1 others said, “No, on the contrary, He is deceiving the multitudes”1
13 But no one spoke publicly about Him, out of fear of the Jews.
14 But right in the middle of the festival, Jesus entered into the temple and began to minister.
15 Therefore the Jews were amazed, saying, “How does He know the scriptures, without being taught?”
16 So Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not My own, but of the One who sent Me.
17 If anyone wants to do His will, they will learn from the teachings, whether it is through God or through the teachings I Myself speak.
18 He who speaks of himself, seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of He who sent Him, he is truthful, and there is no evil within him.
19 Did Moses not give you the law, yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill Me?”
20 The people replied to Him, “You have a devil! Who is trying to kill you?
21 Jesus responded and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel.
22 For Moses bestowed this to you, the rite of circumcision, (not because it is from Moses, but because it is from the forefathers) yet on the Sabbath you circumcise men.2
23 If a man undergoes circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses would not be undone, are you angry with Me because I made a man whole on the Sabbath?
24 Do not judge on the basis of sight, but with righteousness judge justly.
25 Then some of the citizens of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this the One whom they’re trying to kill?”
26 But behold! He is speaking openly, yet they say nothing to Him. What if the high priests know that this is the Christ?
27 But we know the place this Man is from; but after the Christ comes; no man will know the place He is from”
28 Then Jesus shouted out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You know Me and know the place I’m from; but I have not come from Myself, but rather it is the Truth who sent Me, One whom you do not know.1
29 But I know Him, for I Am of Him, and He sent Me”
30 At that time they sought to arrest Him; but no one put hands upon Him, for His time had yet to come.
31 And many among the multitudes believed through Him; and they said, “When the Christ comes, will He do more miracles than those that He has done?”1
32 Now the Pharisees heard the multitudes whispering these words about Him, and sent the servants of the high priest, as well as other Pharisees in order to seize Him.
33 So Jesus said unto them, “There is still a little while I Am with you, then I go unto the One who sent Me.
34 You will seek Me, but not find; and where I Am, you will not be permitted to enter”
35 Then the Jews said among themselves, “Where is He planning to go that we will not find Him? He is not planning to go into the dispersion of the Greeks, to teach the Greeks?”
36 What did He mean when He said, ‘You will seek Me, but not find; and where I Am, you will not be permitted to enter’?”
37 Now on the last day of the festival, Jesus stood up and shouted out, proclaiming, “If anyone lacks water let them come to Me and drink1
38 Those who believe in Me in the manner that the scriptures state, ‘From out of their souls will flow forth rivers of living water’ ”
39 Now He was speaking these things about the Spirit, which those who had faith in Him were about to receive; for the Spirit had not yet come, because Jesus had not yet been clothed in glory.1
40 Therefore some among the multitude, hearing these words said, “Truly this Man is a Prophet”1
41 Some were saying, “This is the Christ” Yet others were saying, “The Christ will not come from Galilee.
42 Have the scriptures not stated, ‘The Christ shall come from the seed of David, and out of Bethlehem, the town where David was?’a”
43 Because of this division took place among the multitudes on account of Him.
44 But some of them desired to arrest Him, but none put hands upon Him.
45 Then the servants came to the high priests and the Pharisees, and they asked them, “Why did you not take Him?”
46 Then the servants answered, “A man has never spoken the way this Man speaks”1
47 Therefore those of the Pharisees responded, “Are you not also deceived?
48 No one among the rulers nor the Pharisees has believed in Him,
49 But the people who do not know the law are accursed”
50 Nicodemus (The one who had come to Him by night) said unto them,
51 “Our law does not condemn a Man before listening to Him and understanding what He is doing”
52 They answered and said to him, “Are you not also of the land of Galilee? If you had searched, you also would have seen that the Prophet will not come from Galilee”1
